Our buddies Adam & Darius have started up a blog to tackle the issues nobody wants to talk about.
Nobody Talks About is a blog that points out subjects that no one seems to be talking about.
From music and entertainment to politics and media many things get swept under the rug.
Since we dont know why people arent talking about these things, rather than investigate, well ask, Why is no one talking about this?
I’ve been checking them out regularly, and hopefully the rest of the bloggosphere will catch on as well; in their short existance they’ve already brought up some good talking points…
You can catch them over at http://nobodytalks.wordpress.com/.

I’m a recovering vinyl junkie. The majority of the credit card balance I carry to this day is a several thousand dollar investment in records I made at the height of my electronic music djing days. Any of you who have been downstairs know I have records crammed everywhere into my basement office: stacked against the wall, stacked on my shelves, in my 2 record bags, even under my desk. At last count I was over 1,000. Doing the math is scary.
Anyway, I bought into one of the digital audio to vinyl adapters (used Stanton Final Scratch) about a year and a half ago, so I found a new outlet for my addiction; $2 per song is a little better than $10-12 per record I suppose. Unfortunately for me, now that I am ramping my djing back up, these digital dj platforms are still difficult to bring to a remote site. Since I have a gig lined up in a week that couldn’t promise access to Final Scratch, I bit the bullet & had to buy a few new records.
Unfortunately, I think it’s re-awakened the vinyl junkie in me…

Saturday was my birthday, and as the saying goes I’m another day older and deeper in debt. That didn’t stop me from taking 27 out and bringing 28 in with a bang Friday night…
The evening began with some pre-drinking over at the Brooklyn lofts by old Tiger Stadium. By 11:30 or so we finally made it to Esko (Detroit’s newest nightclub downtown) for a Paxahau show featuring Marc Houle. We had been there once before about 3 weeks ago, and I made the comment that if it could last a year in it’s location it would probably find itself in the new hipster center of the city due to it’s close proximity (across the street) from the old Book-Cadillac Hotel which is being gutted & renovated to make room for mullion dollar condos. On our way in we caught the building next door*** to the Book-Cadillac coming down (top-left in pictures below). Both buildings have been empty for years, and while the one with the most Detroit cultural significance will stay, it’s still sad to see another Detroit skyscraper come down.
We stayed at Esko until about 1:30 Saturday morning when Marc Houle finished, headed back to Jane’s loft to regroup, and then continued on to the Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit (CAID) for funk night. The place was unbelievably packed. We tried snapping some crowd shots but the lighting wasn’t very good so it’s hard to really show how busy the place was. I did some adjusting to one picture (bottom-right in pictures below) and it turned out pretty cool. We endured the crowd and a few minutes of technical issues (ie. blown circuits no one could find) and stayed at the CAID for a few more hours dancing to the funk, before heading back to Ferndale around 6am.
It was a really nice evening full of friends, dancing, and drinks. And while I may be 28 now, I’m happy to feel 22 while I still can.
***Update: The building next door to the Book-Cadillac was the People’s Outfitting Company building built in 1916 and it is being demolished to make way for the new Book-Cadillac parking deck. More history & photos can be found at the detroitblog.

What the fuck. Please tell me why “Destiny’s Child announces breakup” is a CNN Breaking News headline? Oh and while we’re on the subject of WTF in case you are suffering from the celebrity bullshit withdrawl jitters, Katie Holmes says she’s converting to the Church of Scientology, embracing the religion of her boyfriend Tom Cruise.
If you care about either of these stories, how about you go sip on a nice warm cup of WHO THE FUCK CARES.

Only in Detroit could you possibly turn on the radio for a Friday morning “Eggs ‘n Grits” ghetto booty DJ set for the morning commute drive. Oddly enough, it started my day off very good.
Hit it from the back y’all.

How quickly time slips by. I had intended to post this past weekend about how fucking amazing my Friday night ended up being even after the uber-depressing car-hit-dog-incident, so I might as well do that now. Went down to Oslo in Detroit this weekend to see Miss Kitten spin. Oslo just so happens to be the ONLY cool hipster jaded oldskewler electronic music venue in the city, which is suprising considering the roots of techno are so strongly tied to Detroit.
Anyway, between watching her play & listening to her music selection I was reminded as to why I have always been attacted to electronic music. Electronic music in general is very interesting to me in how it manages to invoke or create emotion from such a non-emotional digital medium. Almost every track she played made me want to move and/or cry from elation. Not only did she play good stuff, but she rocked out doing it. It was great to watch someone else enjoying electronic music as much as I do.
