Detroit: Campus Martius ice skate outing

January 29th, 2007 · No Comments · detroit

Myself, Christa & Jacqui went ice skating at Campus Martius in downtown Detroit Saturday night, and it was another of those experiences that makes me feel like Detroit is not dead.
We decided to check it out later in the evening around 8:30pm thinking that it wouldn’t be busy and would arrive to have the rink [...]

Because to a cat you are really only temporary entertainment

I had my laptop out in my lap this morning sitting in my chair with my feet up. Bailey decided that he should be in my lap instead, so I shutdown and closed the laptop to give him the personal time he requested, and he bolted not 2 seconds later.
Christa summed it up best: [...]

Occasionally I come across something tech related that I’m working on which is hard to find documented, so I document it here for myself & for google to index to possibly help others…
I wrote a simple web page hit counter for my website years ago using php & mysql. This worked fine until last year [...]

Detroit: Where Toyota is worse than Al Qaeda

January 18th, 2007 · 7 Comments · detroit

I went to my first Red Wings game last night at Joe Louis Arena, and it was a blast. Had a few beers & watched them cruise to a 5-3 win over the Nashville Predators.
Between the 2nd and 3rd periods they tried to bring out a Toyota Tundra pickup for an advertising stunt. The [...]

Reloading my machine: A Windows XP Drama

January 17th, 2007 · No Comments · geekdom, microsoft, technology

I had to reload my machine this past weekend. I was very proud of the fact that it was going on 2.5 years and Windows XP SP2 was still as solid as a rock. You can imagine my disappointment Sunday morning when I discovered my machine hopelessly infected with some kind of combination popupware/virus. Being [...]

The North American International Snooze-Fest

January 16th, 2007 · 1 Comment · detroit

Went to the North American International Auto Show in downtown Detroit last night, and I’ve got to say I was completely underimpressed. We got there at about 7pm last night, and I was initially concerned we wouldn’t have enough time to completely explore the show. We ran the full circle around Cobo Hall in a [...]

Problems with Microsoft .Net Framework & applications - 1.1 vs 2.0

January 15th, 2007 · 1 Comment · geekdom, microsoft, technology

I had to reload my machine yesterday (story here). It was not fun. In the process of installing applications I came across a peculiar issue with Microsoft’s .Net Framework which didn’t appear to have much documentation, so I’m documenting it to save others with this problem time & effort.
In reloading my machine there were a [...]

Monty is getting back to normal

January 14th, 2007 · No Comments · whatever

Just a quick update tonight that we’ve successfully weaned Monty off the anti-nausea medication, and he seems to be keeping food down on his own now. He has also returned to his normal crazy-ass self. He’s still on his antibiotics for a few more days, so it looks like he’s making a quick recovery. Will [...]

Man’s best friend and my Friday night

January 13th, 2007 · No Comments · the kids

Monty had his vet appointment last night. I think ideally we were both hoping that we would go in, they’d be able to diagnose his severe stomach flu-like symptoms, and we’d come home and he’d be better. Unfortunately, thats not quite how last night played out. Two hours, a battery of several blood tests, x-rays, [...]
