I spent a couple hours outside doing some yard work today, so I though I’d show off the work we did last weekend plus today…
Somehow I managed to get sweat on the camera. Hey, it’s hard work taking photos and posting them on your blog.

As a follow-up to last week’s rant about pet food, I found a company from Midland, MI (Wysong) that produces all their pet food locally. Its twice as expensive as the stuff I used to buy, but at least there is some confidence in the product, and I am supporting a local company.
The ingredients for the can I gave my dog and kitty last night listed:
Contains rabbit; no grains, no fillers, no artificial preservatives, no synthetic vitamins or minerals, no artificial colouring, and no no artificial or synthetic anything else. Just rabbit.
Both the animals went ape for it, so I bought another can to give a whirl — this time turkey.
It’s ingredients?
Turkey, water sufficient for processing.
Not only do both animals love it, but Mister look-at-me-wrong-and-I’ll-puke Bailey has gone an entire week without regurgitation. Simply amazing!
Most of you probably won’t care, but yesterday the planets were in alignment & all the laws of quantum physics were broken; I managed to change the oil & degunk the lawn mower carburetor to get it started after winter storage… IN ONE PULL!
Any of you who know me know I one of the least mechanically inclined people on the planet, only marginally ahead of the dude below.
According to news today in the Toronto Star:
WASHINGTON – An industrial chemical that led to a recall of more than 100 brands of cat and dog foods has been found to contaminate a second pet food ingredient, expanding the recall further.
The chemical, melamine, is believed to have contaminated rice protein concentrate used to make a variety of Natural Balance Pet Foods products for both dogs and cats, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday.
Natural Balance said it was recalling all its Venison and Brown Rice canned and bagged dog foods, its Venison and Brown Rice dog treats and its Venison and Green Pea dry cat food.
This is just spectacular. After the recent pet food debacle, I switched up all the wet food for both the cat and the dog to Natural Balance. Monty in particular LOVED the new food. Wouldn’t you know it, the diarrhea and puking he did last Sunday — while not enough to tip us off to more tainted food, but enough to make me remember what he ate that day — was probably due to the can of Natural Balance Venison and Brown Rice food I gave him. Luckily I read this today as the last can of wet food I have remaining is *gasp* Natural Balance Venison and Brown Rice.
Dear Pet Food Industry,
I think you just lost a customer permanently.
[08:34] < @chiqy> matt, i am extremely disappointed in your blog of late.
I know — bad blogger bad blogger!!! As Linda so graciously pointed out it has been a whole week since an update, so let me get you up to speed…
So this week has just flown by ridiculously fast, and I’ll try to keep up on new news.
Which incidentally, big news may be posted here soon, I’m crossing my fingers on it…
Found this video on YouTube, and it pretty interestingly shows how sound waves can effect the world around us, and possibly why they can have such a profound effect on people as well.
So I have this manager, who for the sake of this post we’ll call “Dave”. “Dave” is a manager’s manager. Ever seen NBC’s The Office? Well think of “Dave” as Steve Correll, only dorkier and less socially adept.
“Dave” is out today, “sick”, so I was over in his cube this morning pulling out today’s tapes to run the weekend backups. I do this so often that there’s nothing really exciting or new about his cube, but for some reason I was curious about the large stand up manila folder organizer standing proudly in your face as soon as you walk into his area. It seems to scream “HEY, LOOK AT ME I’M SO IMPORTANT AND BUSY THAT I’VE GOT SO MANY PROJECTS REQUIRING THIS NIFTY ORGANIZATIONAL SYSTEM”. I was so curious I took a quick peep to see what all these projects were about, since if these were projects he was organizing, chances are that I’m the one doing the work.
So I started flipping through the first folder, and there was blank paper inside. That’s weird. I checked another, and wouldn’t you know it, there was more blank paper. Another folder, more blank paper.
MORE. BLANK. PAPER.
To be fair, I found a couple of folders with watermarked CONFIDENTIAL paper in them, but it was still blank paper.
So note to self, apparently I need to clean up the mess of computer parts, computers, books, network equipment & cabling off my desk, since that apparently just shows I’m messy, not busy. The really, truly busy people just keep files of blank paper out in the open on their clean desk, since you never know when you’ll need a piece of watermarked CONFIDENTIAL paper to write down a phone number or something…
