I went to the gym the last two nights after work (insert BEEFCAKE references) for the first time in (let’s be honest nice) years. There are no particular fitness goals here other than trying to offset weekends of debauchery with some amount of good, or maybe I’m just making sure I can still run a mile for the first time since high school (pfft). Either way, at what point do you stop feeling like you just got jumped by some dude with a crowbar while leaving the Packard Plant after a full night of partying for the last $2 in your wallet? A week? Two weeks? If this keeps up I’m going to need to borrow bus money home from someone, anyone…

Some tracks help to drown out work, clean the house, play a game of cards, study, read, drive, walk, whatever. Once in a while though a track comes along that fully envelops you both emotionally and physically, leaving no room for anything else, and such is the case with Choice (Laurent Garnier) – Acid Eiffel. A swirling 303 acid line is soon joined by a sea of warm strings and crisply arranged 909 percussion, slowly introducing modifications to each of the elements on the main theme. At 13+ minutes this is an epic journey of emotive electronics.
I can still remember vividly the first night I was introduced to this track, and every time I hear it again I’m transported back to that perfect magical morning nearly 15 years ago as the sun rose slowly over the horizon, awash in a collective experience of innocence and dance.

I didn’t even realize it but yesterday marked Monty’s 6th month with GME. We spent 2 hours today in the great weather at the Deep Ellum Bark Park with his new friend Dickens to celebrate.
We’re very excited to say Monty is doing very well and continues to improve with every day that goes by. The latest CBC and additional Superchem tests came back great so he had what may be his last Cytosar chemo treatment for a while today, and we’re now down to alternating Prednisone/Cyclosporine doses every other day.
Thanks to everyone for your continued support and inquiries – we’re hoping to spend a lot of quality time in 2013 with the little dude and hope you can too!
I miss the gritty history of Detroit. It’s not often that 21st and 19th century architecture can be found to co-mingle on the same block, so in some ways it was an adjustment to move to Dallas and be surrounded by little more than 100 years of history. That being said there is something about the energy and momentum of this city; from my desk window I see no less than 4 tower cranes and can hear the noises of construction echoing through the highrise canyons. Things are happening here. There is not talk of building demo for the sake of demo or a new empty lot but real growth and progress, and that to me is exciting.
The Praetorian Building is coming down brick by brick and several more decrepit storefronts on Elm & Commerce are either being razed or rehabbed. I took this picture from Stone Street Alley near Elm St to document the progress so far. *
