Detroit transplants living in Dallas

I like hearing rumors on the internets.

Small World

At the risk of making the-most-annoying-song-in-the-world be stuck in your heads for the next 2 weeks, it’s a fucking small world, after all.

Way way back in time (2 years ago) when I proposed to Christa, I bought the domain mattandchrista.com. I had given the name a lot of thought, and conducted weeks of extensive market research for the optimum combination of letters to bring in the most traffic. It came down to two finalists: (1) christaandmatt.com or (2) mattandchrista.com.

In the end I chose what I did because it met my exhaustive domain name criteria:

  • My name had to be first

Interestingly enough, not long after the launch of mattandchrista.com, I began receiving reports that people went to our website, only to find pictures and information of people that weren’t us.

IT GETS CREEPY FROM HERE.

It turns out there is another coupleized Matt and Christa out there, and they purchased christaandmatt.com. They too went to MSU. They too did the long distance thing.
And the really ironic thing that even Alanis would be proud to sing about – Christa met Christa through Comerica. I’m surprised the fabric of the space-time continuum did not instantly explode and burn.

Christa + Christa = Explosive Space Time

Happy System Administrator Day!

July 27th, 2007 (Last Friday Of July)
8th Annual System Administrator Appreciation Day

[source]

Friday, July 27th, 2007, is the 8th annual System Administrator Appreciation Day. On this special international day, give your System Administrator something that shows that you truly appreciate their hard work and dedication.

Let’s face it, System Administrators get no respect 364 days a year. This is the day that all fellow System Administrators across the globe, will be showered with expensive sports cars and large piles of cash in appreciation of their diligent work. But seriously, we are asking for a nice token gift and some public acknowledgement. It’s the least you could do.

Consider all the daunting tasks and long hours (weekends too.) Let’s be honest, sometimes we don’t know our System Administrators as well as they know us. Remember this is one day to recognize your System Administrator for their workplace contributions and to promote professional excellence. Thank them for all the things they do for you and your business.

No surprise, my users didn’t get me anything except more trouble calls. Typical.

New Hosting

Apparently the site has been down for a few weeks. Of course my hosting would go down while C and I were on our honeymoon. Never fails… Anyway I’ve restored the site from a backup I made just before we left, so anything posted after June 27th is gone for good.

Sheppard over at truehosting.ca hooked me up so if anyone needs hosting of their own, this is the place to talk to.

I’m in the process of getting everything back up, including wedding & honeymoon photos, so stay tuned.

Blog goes into “Spring in Ferndale” mode

Just a quick note that I spruced up the blog header from “Winter in Detroit” mode, to “Spring in Ferndale” mode.

The photos are some I grabbed off the internets of the 9 Mile & Woodward area of downtown Ferndale. Of note you will see in rotation the Woodward Avenue Brewers (one of our favourite hangouts), Como’s (best pizza in town – hands down!), the Woodward streetscape looking north from 9 Mile, and the 9 Mile & Woodward street sign.

I’m a productive slob. No really!

According to a story over at extremetech.com, a new book is out that argues neatness is overrated, costs money, wastes time and quashes creativity.

People who are really, really neat, between what it takes to be really neat at the office and at home, typically will spend anywhere from an hour to four hours a day just organizing and neatening.

If you walk into my office at home, you would think, ‘Oh my God, something just exploded in that room!’ But it’s an organized mess. It’s a mess I made, and I know where everything is.

See, this is why I get upset with anyone who tries to tell me to clean up my desk. You touch my desk and move something and I WILL FIND OUT and cut your hands off because I won’t be able to find it. I have my own custom filing system, and stuff at the top of the pile is my reminder. Besides, I’d rather make use of that hour or two spent tidying up with something more constructive… Like being lazy!

A not so interesting look at my search habits

While researching something at work this afternoon with the Google, I happened to pull of a list of my recent searches and was quite amused.

Google Search Results

The technical searches aren’t that odd to me, but “bg’s reunite”, “haters”, all the food searches, and “vermont ‘red state'” look funny to me in that list.

Oh and trogdor.
What the heck was I thinking that day??

Trogdor the Burninator!!!!

Nobody talks about a lot of things, but these guys do

Our buddies Adam & Darius have started up a blog to tackle the issues nobody wants to talk about.

Nobody Talks About is a blog that points out subjects that no one seems to be talking about.

From music and entertainment to politics and media many things get swept under the rug.

Since we dont know why people arent talking about these things, rather than investigate, well ask, Why is no one talking about this?

I’ve been checking them out regularly, and hopefully the rest of the bloggosphere will catch on as well; in their short existance they’ve already brought up some good talking points…

You can catch them over at http://nobodytalks.wordpress.com/.
