Riverwalk Revival

The Dequindre Cut is a sub-grade railroad corridor. Originally used to link commercial manufacturing in the early 19th century, The Cut was later used as a commuter rail traveling from Pontiac to the Ren Cen. In the decline of the 80’s, The Cut was tagged by graffiti artists and home to the homeless. Now the one mile stretch from the Riverwalk to Eastern Market is being revitalized for bikes, pedestrians, and (some key words here) future mass transit.

Light Rail Transit in Detroit

My dream INCHED closer to reality back in April with the release of a study trumpeting light rail transit as the best regional transit option for the Woodward corridor.

An intensive 18-month technical review that is following guidelines established by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) New Starts Program concludes a light rail line along eight miles on Woodward Avenue from Downtown to the Michigan State Fairgrounds near Eight Mile Road is the best alternative to build the starter line for a regional rapid transit system in the Detroit area.

Someday, we could hop a train down the block from our house to hit up a ball game or a night on the town. Someday

Band-Of-The-Moment: Chromeo

I was introduced to Chromeo yesterday by one of my daily reads on the internet circuit, and I can’t get this song out of my head.

It’s a jam of epic proportions complete with kitchy 80’s funk-electro synth & basslines and geek-chic frontmen. Also major bonus points for the Dire Straits throwback on the video.

I dare you to turn it up and not bob your head. Try me.

The Mundane

In the past week I/we did these things (in no particular order):

1. Went golfing with Steve before he left town. Discovered we all suck pretty badly at golf.

2. Went to a Tigers game a few rows back from the dugout.

3. Acted like we knew what we were doing after watching our 100th episode of The Dog Whisperer.

4. Drank a beer as big as our head.

5. Learned badminton is a sport. No, really. A sport you can hold a beer and cigarette in one hand and still KICK ABSOLUTE ASS with the other. My kind of sport.

6. Went to a theater to see a movie that for once didn’t suck (Batman – go see it).

7. Managed to eat at Toast a) without being hungover, and b) without waiting 2 hours for a table to be open.

8. Stood inside a skyscraper and waved at Windsor.

9. Made it through another week of life.

Camping Recap

Longpoint 2008 has come and gone, and somehow we managed to take 1 photo for the 4 days we were out there. One. Uno. And it’s not even all that exciting (though it does at least prove we were drinking there…

Anyway, I’m hoping someone has some pictures I can publish to make up for my extreme lack of camera concern. Anyone?

Gone Camping

See yah later Ferndizzy, we’re headed to Long Point for our annual alcohol consumption slash liver testing camping trip!
This year we’ve got a group of 20-odd happy campers, so it should be a doozy. Check back next week for what I’m sure will be some AMAZING stories of BEACH SURVIVAL. Stay tuned…
