Turkey Weekend and Lewis Black

Last weekend was the highly anticipated 4 day holiday weekend. I can’t tell you enough how happy I was to have a few extra days off work… Anyway, a quick rundown of the weekend’s activities:

  • Wednesday night Steve was in town from HOTlanta before his brother’s wedding, so we managed to get 1 evening of drunkeness in over at Gracie’s Underground in Ferndale. Who would have thought closing the bar and coming back to the house for more was such a bad idea, ohhhhhhh around 8am Thursday when we had to get up…
  • Thursday was spent traveling to the G Rap, eating turkey & visiting family, and traveling back.
  • Friday we met-up with Lauren & Jay who were in town visiting from Brantford, said hello to Cooper (Lauren’s Mom’s new Leonbeger puppy), and again tested out the liver’s ability to filter toxins from the bloodstream at Danny’s Irish Pub in Ferndale. Until close. Again. Rockstars.
  • Saturday we saw Lewis Black at the Fox Theater downtown. If you’ve seen the Daily Show you would probably recognize him as the host of “Back in Black”. The dude seriously looked like he’d ingested enough caffeine to kill an elephant, and provided some serious hilarity for the evening. As a sidenote, I had never been in the Fox before, and it’s amazing.

  • Sunday, it was time for round 2 of turkey.

And that brings us back to the present. As much as I enjoyed having 4 days off, IT WAS A LOT OF WORK!

Why I’m glad I’m insured

Thank god for Krazy Glue
Krazy Glue solves all!

Yes, the pictures are fuzzy. I had to take them without my glasses, HELLO! I’ve got an appointment next weekend with the eye doctor, so hopefully the glue lasts a week…
So if anyone wants to come over and entertain the dog tomorrow, be my guest.

Cars suck.

Cars Suck

Once again I find myself spending money on my car (2nd time in less than a month for those of you keeping score at home) because something broke, so this is seriously getting old already.

While it’s not to the tune of a 1-with-three-zeros repair bill, having to spend another $50 on something as stupid as a used wiper linkage unit, the time it took me to drive around and find a used one at a junk yard, and then to reinstall it tonight really just pisses me off. Ever try driving in the rain with no wipers? I wouldn’t recommend it.

Oh and if RainX wants to hire me to do a commercial, I’m available – just call my agent.

***Note: Finished the swap out and I have working wipers again. Yay!

Goodbye Fi-nite, Hello Oslo

It had to happen sometime, but our favorite quasi-legal after hours venue the Fi-nite Gallery was closed indefinitely this past Friday night after a series of raids by the DPD. Coincidentally, I was booked to DJ at the gallery Saturday night. Pissed much? Yes.
RIP Fi-nite – we had many great drunken nights at Brooklyn & Plum.

Fi-nite’s sudden closure did however leave me with an evening free to explore another old friend, Oslo.

Oslo - Detroit techno club

Oslo suffered a similar fate last winter when the owner abruptly closed up shop after some shady check writing and a lot of debt. It’s reopened now with new owners, and even though it’s been closed for almost a year it’s much the same as it ever was. On a side note, apparently the neu-hipster movement is in full swing in Detroit. If I have to see one more person with a v-neck t-shirt and an emo haircut, I’ll puke. No joke.
Besides that, it was still a toe-tapping, head bobbing, drink-too-much-gin kind of night.

So with the demise of one techno-haunt in town, comes the reopening of another.

Life and death, the circle of (night)life.

Bocce Ball Nights & Catch Phrase Debauchary

Good times, with good friends. It’s a game of Bocce Ball and another drunken 5 hours of Catch Phrase. Many a good time can be had with Catch Phrase, but they really should put a disclaimer on that game that states “it never ends”. That’s exactly what I was thinking when I drove home at 5 am (pre-daylight savings time).

Catch Phrase

Oops!

I always wondered what it was like to blow a transmission in a car. I found out last week.

Keeping the story short I blew a gear getting on the freeway bad enough that it blew clean through the transmission case. (Un)Lucky for me the Hyundai transmission is connected directly to the differential. Translation into english: it cost me $1500 to get a used transmission assembly and have it installed.

Looks like I won’t be doing much of anything for, oh, the next 6 months or so until I can pay that bad boy off.

On the bright side, I met my neighbors over at O’Brian Services, and they are good people. I’ll be taking my vehicle there for any future repairs.
