Your dog is smarter than you think

I read an article on MSNBC this morning about new research that is revealing dogs are smarter than we previously thought.

The experiment suggests that dogs can put themselves inside the head of another dog — and perhaps people — to make relatively complex decisions.

“This suggests they can actually think about your intention — they can look for explanations of your behavior and make inferences about what you are thinking,” Hare said.

This explains perfectly why Monty chewed up the arms on my glasses when I wouldn’t pay attention to him on Saturday night. That or he just thought my ear grease was tasty…

Into the great wide open

Bailey the Cat has only been outside a handful of times in his entire life. Recently, he has started standing at the back door staring at the screen. Christa thought it would be funny to put him on a leash and take him for a walk.

It WAS cute.

It’s not cute anymore. Now he tries to go out any time the back door is open. He snuck out this morning when I let the dog out so I had to chase him through the back yard in my underwear. Now he sounds like he is dying if he is left inside while we go out.

Lost without it

It’s Wednesday night. It’s time for Lost, right?

Lost

Nope. No new episodes of Lost until February. Yes, that means 8 months of waiting.

Thanks ABC, thanks.

I didn’t know it was over, until it was too late

I admit it, it’s my fault. I didn’t make it to the Detroit Electronic Music Festival (DEMF) at all this weekend. I feel like I owe an apology to a lot of people for plans made, and plans broken.
To Jason, Justin, Phil, Jeremy and others: you were right. Now that it’s over, I’m regretful I didn’t go. I know I intended to meet up with you all several times over the weekend, but it never really panned out.
To the city of Detroit & Paxahau, sorry I let you down. You know I’m still proud of you and will continue to support.

Without going into too much detail, between the crappy weather on Saturday and family obligations on Sunday we were pretty much limited to going on Monday. Unfortunately, today by the time we got around to it just didn’t seem fair to pay 60$ for the two of us for entry and parking downtown for just a few hours.

And the moral of the story? If I had ponied up prior to Friday I could have gotten 2 weekend passes for both Christa and I for a few dollars more than what it would have cost us to get 2 individual day passes. It probably would have meant we would have gone for a few hours here and there instead of waiting for it to be over to meet up with friends.

Orbital was right; it’s better to regret something you have done, than to regret something you haven’t done. Next year, DEMF, next year…

Blank VMware Guest on Server Console

Note: if you are intimidated by geekspeak look away from this post.

I spent the better part of a few hours this morning trying to figure out why I could not get a virtual appliance to boot on one of my VMware Server boxes. I would start the guest OS, but would get nothing but a blank screen in the Console.

The why:
The problem is due to a permissions error; in order to see the machine through the console the .vmx config file must be executable for the user you’re starting it as.

The how:
Log into your VMware Server machine and find the directory where the virtual machine you are starting is located at. Find the .vmx file and chmod it so that it’s executable (ex. chmod 755 vmachine.vmx).

Thats it!

Ode to a queen size bed

“My knees are hitting the wall. Move over, you’re taking up too much of the bed.”

“It’s good for you.”

“Will it put hair on my chest?”

“That and make you see better!”

Sometimes it’s the little things that piss me off

I need to write a nasty letter to the vending machine company here at work. They always seem to put the Butterfinger bars so high up in the machine that when the machine drops the them to vend, the candy bars inevitably break.

That’s almost as good as the time they put the pop-tarts all the way on the top fucking shelf. Trying to get my breakfast out of the machine in a single piece was “interesting”…

Addicted to Lost

We’re addicted to Lost. While I was scouring the net for sneak peak videos, I came across these 2 videos which made Christa and I crack up…

If you have trouble following along, they have a new pill just for you:

Matt tastes like cake…

Well this past Saturday was the first of two bridal showers. To my delight I had the opportunity to eat matt’s face. His crafty sister had managed to find some embarrassing third and fourth grade photos of Matt and I to have imaged onto the cake. Mmmmm……. vanilla.
