In an effort to give equal opportunity to both Bailey & Monty on the blog, here’s a shot of Bailey “helping” me stomp some promo CDs this afternoon.
Oh the life of a kitty…

Michigan Weather 101: Wait a day and things will be different.
Over the past 2 weeks Winter changed into Spring, Spring changed into Summer, and both Spring and Summer got thrown out and Winter came back with a vengeance.
It was 82F last week at this time, and its 32F this week.
It wouldn’t be so bad if I wasn’t getting used to the no-jacket-play-with-the-dog-outside weather.
So 2 big things have happened in the past few days regarding the wedding, and if you answered “tuxes” and “limo”, then you were probably with us or I already called you about it (sorry internet – you’re second billing this time).
I picked out the tuxes for the groomsmen & the fathers on Tuesday night. I went with the Men’s Warehouse since we have 2 out of state groomsmen and 1 out of country groomsmen. Luckily there’s a Men’s Warehouse in both Chicago & Atlanta, and apparently Moore’s Menswear in Canadia is owned by MW, so Adam is lucky he doesn’t have to have a forced visit in the next few weeks. The tuxes are Kenneth Cole, one of my favourite designers. I figure if we can’t be comfortable, we might as well be stylin’.
Wednesday we went to check out Limo World in Hazel Park after work. Basically with the size of our wedding party, we were very limited in our options of cars. We both wanted the Rolls Royce but had to settle for an 18 passenger Lincoln.
We’re also working on finalizing a time line which I hope to post up soon. There are a million details you don’t think about up front that suddenly come at you from every direction. Anyone have any Prozac?
Just a quick note that I spruced up the blog header from “Winter in Detroit” mode, to “Spring in Ferndale” mode.
The photos are some I grabbed off the internets of the 9 Mile & Woodward area of downtown Ferndale. Of note you will see in rotation the Woodward Avenue Brewers (one of our favourite hangouts), Como’s (best pizza in town – hands down!), the Woodward streetscape looking north from 9 Mile, and the 9 Mile & Woodward street sign.
Despite everything that happened with Monty two months ago, Eukanuba has impressed me.
I buy Eukanuba food for both Bailey & Monty. A lot of Eukanuba food. $70.00 a month worth of Eukanuba food. In the grand scheme of things my investment is probably nothing to a company that talks of millions of dollars in profits. So when Menu Foods blew me off and hung up on me after giving me the number to Eukanuba, I was less than amused. I was however, impressed with the way Eukanuba handled my call to their customer service line.
Not only did they answer promptly, but the person on the phone was concerned, listened to me, agreed with me, took my info & my vet’s info, and let me know a special claims group member will be contacting me in a few days.
At this point I remain cautiously optimistic that I can have the whole thing resolved.
From the Menu Foods FAQ online:
If Menu Foods product is the cause of sickness or death, Menu Foods will take responsibility. Menu has engaged a professional firm to manage your concerns and is currently contacting concerned pet owners who have reached our call center. Specific direction will be received from these individuals. Please keep copies of all your vet records and receipts for pet food purchases as well as vet bills.
I just spent 20 minutes on hold after calling the Menu Foods “hotline”. The woman on the phone asked one question, what brand did I purchase? After I said Eukanuba she put me on hold for another minute so she could find the Eukanuba customer service number, and then hung up.
So in essence it took 25 minutes for Menu Foods to give me a phone number I could just have easily gotten from the internet. And what about this “professional firm” Manu Foods has hired? If by “professional” they mean lets-see-how-fast-we-can-redirect-them-to-someone-else I think they might be closer to the truth.
If Menu Foods thinks it can get rid of me that easy, they’re wrong. I’m prepared for a long fight on this one.
Tune in for Pet Food Recall Part 5 when I call Eukanuba so that they can tell me to call Menu Foods back.
Normally in a rant, I would have plenty of things to say. Right now, it’s probably the shock more than anything that is preventing me from typing as I am absolutely livid about the CNN.com breaking news headline I just received in my email.
- NEW: N.Y. officials say rat poison found in tainted pet food
- Class-action lawsuit filed against manufacturer
- Menu Foods doesn’t comment on suit, offers condolences to pet owners
- Recall announced March 16 after cats and dogs suffer renal failure
ALBANY, New York (AP) — Rat poison has been found in pet food blamed for the deaths of at least 16 cats and dogs, a spokeswoman for the State Department of Agriculture and Markets said Friday.
Rat poison? Who’s sick fucking joke was that? To me this screams someone with some real anti-social mass-murder tendencies. I hope they are able to trace it back to the plant, to the shift, to the individual machine some jackass runs so that I can find them and force-feed THEM the same shit they made me feed my own pets. If there was ever a more disgusting person on the face of the earth than this asshole I wouldn’t believe it.
A spokesman for New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said he was not aware of any criminal investigation involving the tainted food.
Someone better slap some sense into this guy too.
Someone is going to pay the $400 vet bill for my dog, and I expect an apology from every fucking company down the line IN WRITING.
Ever wanted to put together a VMware virtual machine host without using windows, but were too intimidated? If youre like me, you like the idea of using a low overhead OS on your host boxes to maximize the resources available for your virtual machines.
Unfortunately, up until now any *nix system install had a bit of a learning curve that required hours of using the Google.
Having spent the day yesterday trying to minimize time spent loading host machines so I could get to work with my virtual machines, I put together this how to / tutorial so that others could benefit from the ease of which this system is setup.
Read on to see how easy it really is!

According to a story over at extremetech.com, a new book is out that argues neatness is overrated, costs money, wastes time and quashes creativity.
People who are really, really neat, between what it takes to be really neat at the office and at home, typically will spend anywhere from an hour to four hours a day just organizing and neatening.
If you walk into my office at home, you would think, ‘Oh my God, something just exploded in that room!’ But it’s an organized mess. It’s a mess I made, and I know where everything is.
See, this is why I get upset with anyone who tries to tell me to clean up my desk. You touch my desk and move something and I WILL FIND OUT and cut your hands off because I won’t be able to find it. I have my own custom filing system, and stuff at the top of the pile is my reminder. Besides, I’d rather make use of that hour or two spent tidying up with something more constructive… Like being lazy!
